A Unique Approach to Stays and Accommodations for Everyday Explorers

Assimilating Seamlessly:

Embarking on our globetrotting adventure, we've picked up some nifty tidbits during our escapades. We've officially entered the retirement realm and clocked in a whopping 18 months exploring the world beyond US borders at the time of this writing. While we've been Euro-trippin' for most of that time. This group of short blogs will share are some gems of wisdom we've gathered along the way. In this installment, we delve into our unique approach to arranging stays and accommodations, which seamlessly integrates into everyday life rather than the conventional travel experience.

Also many times you get Laundry appliances so you wont have to avail yourself of finding a Laundromat, or laundering at a petrol station.

Alright, here's the dish on kitchen vibes: trust me, dining out 24/7 is not pocket-friendly, nor is it a gourmet adventure after a while. The plan is simple: still dive into local flavors as frequently and you want.

Who needs to drain their wallet in tourist hotspots like London, Florence, or Dublin? Those mega-cities can be pretty pricey, and hotels are usually the name of the game! Venturing into our travel style is like stepping into a world of cozy, temporary nests strategically nestled in captivating corners of countries. These spots, carefully chosen, act as our launchpads for whirlwind adventures, thanks to the splendid web of transportation connections.

Our specialty? We're the grandmasters of day trips and overnight escapades, jetting off to all those dreamy destinations we've been longing to explore. Oh, and here's the savvy part: we snag sweet discounts by renting a place for a few weeks. Not only does this save us some coins, but it also means we can ditch the heavy baggage and travel light during our multi-day escapades.

Zooming around without a car was our style abroad. So, the spots we picked were practically neighbors with train and bus stations—think an easy 10 to 15-minute stroll max. Not to mention, we were like magnets for the historic charm of our chosen towns. And hey, convenience was key, so we had markets a stone's throw away for all things grocery and everyday essentials. Oh, and laundry facilities? Yeah, we hunted those down too, just in case they weren't part of our rental digs. Easy livin', right?

Don't get us wrong, savoring local flavors is a must, but why not keep your bank account happy and enjoy some home-cooked goodness as well? So, one of our initial missions upon arrival to our temporary home was to give our fridge a makeover with all the basics. Armed with a stove, fridge, microwave, and an arsenal of utensils, we transformed into home chefs. Rainy days or just feeling like couch potatoes? No biggie, we could still chow down at home. Now, there's this myth of "bnb" implying breakfast is standard. Let's call that a friendly fib in most spots we bunked. But hey, in a few cases, we hit the jackpot with a little breakfast stash—teas, coffees, cereal, bread, butter, milk; the works! It's like they read our minds.

To sum it up, our travel strategy is more than just sightseeing; it's about becoming savvy explorers. By setting up temporary nests near bustling transportation hubs, we effortlessly navigate well-known tourist spots and hidden gems alike. We embrace our culinary creativity by equipping our fridges with essentials, indulging in local flavors and homemade delights. Escaping the frantic pace of dining out, we relish the leisurely atmosphere of European hangouts, whether it's a charming pub or a snug whiskey bar. Through extended stays, our connections with locals flourish, revealing the pulse of each destination guided by those who call it home. This travel tale is a blend of spontaneity and strategic planning, crafting an immersive and liberating adventure.

What's pretty neat about Europe, unlike the hustle in US restaurants, is that they don't play the "hurry up and finish" game or table-tango with you. Imagine this: a leisurely afternoon, maybe after exploring some ancient landmarks, kicking back in a cozy pub or a charming whiskey bar. We'd sprawl out for hours, updating our website, maybe even indulging in a game of cards. Meanwhile, our laundry's doing its thing at a nearby laundromat. And the best part? No pressure to buy a mountain of food or drinks, no need to give up our coveted spot. It's a relaxed and sociable vibe that we absolutely adore

Oh, here's another advantage having a home base for a few weeks: it's like unlocking a backstage pass to the local scene. You get to cozy up to the folks who call the place home and they're absolute pros at revealing the hidden treasures of their town. Think local haunts where they chow down or unwind, insider tips on special events like neighborhood football or rugby matches, and the lowdown on cool spots for live music. It's like getting the VIP tour from the true locals themselves!

We are William and Mary Kay. This is our blog about the next journey in our lives. We have always shared a love of travel and have visited many parts of the world, but there is so much more to see and experience. After separating ourselves from the obligations of work and possessions we are free to walk this beautiful planet and immerse ourselves in the rich cultures and meet the wonderful people with whom we share this planet. We are both interested in art, history, archaeology and culture and hope to volunteer to keep and maintain historical and environmental sites.  We live active lives and enjoy, snorkeling, swimming, kayaking, canoeing, sailing, hiking, snowshoe hiking, biking, zip lining and are up for almost any activity. This blog is to let our current and future friends know where we are and what we are doing. We are simply lost in the right direction.
