Newport Beach, CA, USA

We thought it might be nice to share a few restaurant gems we have found living on the Balboa Peninsula this past year.

Arc Butcher & Bakery, located at 417 30th St. on the bay side of Newport Blvd.  They serve food with a focus on flame, flavor and finesse where every item is crafted over open fire in a kitchen where there is nowhere to hide. Classic dishes that focus on fresh, farmed and vibrant ingredients. Cast iron, wood and clay make up all the serving dishes to further emulate the natural appeal and inherent passion dedicated to every nuance. The wine program suits both an old world palate and a new world fan. Offering the finest wines from Europe as well as the best from California. The beers are local and hand-selected to match the dishes. You do need to save room for cake. They bake everything fresh each day, with cinnamon rolls, cookies, and the amazing 6 layer German Chocolate, and Carrot Cakes.... MMMMMM...MMM

Tupelo Junction LOgo.jpg

Tupelo Junction Café, located at 508 29th Street, is family owned and true to southern style:   Cocktails come in mason jars, the coffee mugs are country-style crockery, and the walls display fruit-crate labels as artwork. The menu is packed with southern-influenced dishes like apple cinnamon beignets; a pulled-pork sloppy joe; fried chicken, corn-bread croutons, and buttermilk dressing. We have taken many of our friends to his restaurant and some want to go there again on their next visit with us.  The French toast is unbelievable and you have to try the Bacon Lettuce and Green Fried Tomato sandwich. Don’t forget Apple Cinnamon Beignet with Carmel Cream Anglaise.

Pescadou Bistro

Pescadou Bistro Located in a understated storefront at 3325 Newport Blvd. The restaurant is French cuisine in a romantic setting. Our friends Willy and Joan introduced us to this restaurant years ago to celebrate our anniversary and we fell in love with the place and often dine there. The restaurant delivers prix fixe dinner options and small plates of traditional bistro fare to ensure a casual and relaxed French dining experience, and an eclectic menu that includes dishes such as duck leg confit and cassoulet, and lamb chops and entrecote. The ambiance and interesting French dishes offer a meal that is anything but ordinary.

Bill&MaryKay.jpg

We are William and Mary Kay. This is our blog about the next journey in our lives. We have always shared a love of travel and have visited many parts of the world, but there is so much more to see and experience. After separating ourselves from the obligations of work and possessions we are free to walk this beautiful planet and immerse ourselves in the rich cultures and meet the wonderful people with whom we share this planet. We are both interested in art, history, archaeology and culture and hope to volunteer to keep and maintain historical and environmental sites.  We live active lives and enjoy, snorkeling, swimming, kayaking, canoeing, sailing, hiking, snowshoe hiking, biking, zip lining and are up for almost any activity. This blog is to let our current and future friends know where we are and what we are doing. We are simply lost in the right direction.
