Our first stop was, undoubtedly, the star attraction - the Leaning Tower of Pisa. While many tourists flock to Pisa solely for the Piazza Del Miracoli and the Leaning Tower, opting to move swiftly to their next destination, we find solace in smaller towns and villages, steering clear of the hustle of bustling cities. Choosing to stay in Pisa allowed us to explore this charming, tranquil city once the day-trippers departed. Pisa, with its inherent beauty, captivated us, and we had the chance to discover other attractions within the city. Our stay was complemented by a charming inn near the train station, adding a touch of warmth to our Italian sojourn.
Walking through the town toward our hotel we discovered, nestled along the banks of the Arno River in Pisa, the Santa Maria della Spina is a captivating Gothic masterpiece dating back to the 13th century. This petite yet intricately designed church, adorned with delicate marble carvings and spires, boasts a unique riverside location that enhances its overall charm.
As the sun begins its descent in the evening sky over Pisa, the River Arno becomes a canvas for a breathtaking display of colors. The buildings are bathed in a warm, golden glow, casting elongated reflections on the gently flowing waters. The hues of orange, pink, and purple paint a mesmerizing panorama, transforming the riverbanks into a tranquil haven. The silhouette of the cityscape is etched against the vibrant sky, creating a serene and contemplative atmosphere.
