STONEHENGE
On our way home from our trip to Bath we stopped in Salisbury for a visit to Stonehenge. We were lucky because we were there early enough that there weren't too many people and the weather was good. According to the guides it is usually rainy this time of year..
Above is a photo compilation video showing all the sides of Stonehenge as we walked around it

On the site they put an arrow to show the orientation for the summer and winter solstices using the stone pictured here.
The function of Stonehenge has long been interpreted. It could have been used to predict the summer and winter solstices, the vernal and autumnal equinoxes but also eclipses of the sun and moon. It may also have functioned as a means of predicting the positions of the sun and moon relative to the Earth, and thereby the seasons, and therefore also as a calendar. As such it might have been the gathering place for religious ceremonies connected with the sun and moon.

One of the more interesting things about the connecting of the stones is that they used a method of peg and groove system similar to the way wood furniture is assembled to hold the horizontal rocks in place. In the picture I have circled one of the pegs.
